As a chill finally enters the air, perhaps we can take a moment between the hustle of Halloween and Thanksgiving to settle down with some good stories. Of course, the staff at the library have several good book ideas to share. Mary has been revisiting some old classics, including \u201cOf Mice and Men\u201d<\/a> by John Steinbeck (FIC Ste) and \u201cJonathan Livingston Seagull\u201d<\/a> by Richard Bach (FIC Bach). She also enjoyed \u201cThe World According to Garp\u201d<\/a> by John Irving (FIC Irving), calling it \u201cgood enough to read over and over.\u201d And Ivette recommends a new classic: \u201cA Man Called Ove\u201d<\/a> by Fredrik Backman (FIC Backman). This must-read bestselling story was adapted into a movie called \u201cA Man Called Otto\u201d (DVD FIC Man) starring Tom Hanks.\u00a0<\/p>

What about taking this time to connect with nature? Our library naturalist, Steph, has several books to recommend. \u201cHeart of the Hive\u201d<\/a> by Hilary Kearney (595.799 Kearney) explores the mind of the honeybee and how each bee works together in the hive. \u201cWhat an Owl Knows\u201d<\/a> by Jennifer Ackerman (598.9 Ack) is a perfect follow-up to Steph\u2019s latest owl education program and digs into the new science of these mysterious birds. \u201cThe Forever Dog Life\u201d<\/a> by Karen Beeker (636.7085 Beeker) shares over 120 recipes, longevity tips, and new science for better bowls and healthier homes. Finally, \u201cSam Thayer\u2019s Field Guide to Edible Wild Plants of Eastern and Central North America\u201d<\/a> (581.63 Thayer) covers 678 edibles, with over 1,800 color photos and detailed descriptions.\u00a0<\/p>

For our fantasy readers, Cindy recommends \u201cThe Dragon\u2019s Path\u201d<\/a> by Daniel Abraham (FIC Abraham Dagger v.1): \u201cThe former assistant to George RR Martin gave rave reviews about Daniel\u2019s book. Once you pick up the book, you won\u2019t put it down!\u201d Emily loved \u201cThe Serpent and the Wings of Night\u201d<\/a> by Carissa Broadbent (FIC Broadbent Crowns v.1), the first in a new incredibly popular series, and Crystal loved \u201cMiddlegame\u201d<\/a> by Seanan McGuire (FIC McGuire Alchemical v.1), which won several great fantasy awards. Christie recommends the fantasy series \u201cThe Watch Hill Trilogy\u201d by Karen Marie Moning, the first of which is \u201cThe House at Watch Hill\u201d<\/a> (FIC Moning Watch v.1).<\/p>

For our large print readers, Dellie recommends \u201cFifteen Summers Later\u201d<\/a> by Rae Anne Thayne (LP FIC Thayne). This book explores a cult and the power of sisterhood. She also enjoyed the Amish fiction title \u201cA Healing Touch\u201d<\/a> by Suzanne Woods Fisher (LP FIC Fisher) and a title from the popular Cork O\u2019Connor mystery series, \u201cSpirit Crossing\u201d<\/a> by William Kent Krueger (LP FIC Krueger).\u00a0<\/p>

If you are looking for some wonderful Thanksgiving dinner ideas, Montica says \u201cThe Best of Thanksgiving\u201d<\/a> (641.568 Bes) is \u201cthe perfect cookbook to give you ideas of things to fix for Thanksgiving.\u201d But what about a horror flick after your turkey dinner? Dennis recommends the aptly named horror comedy \u201cThanksgiving\u201d<\/a> (DVD FIC Thanksgiving).\u00a0<\/p>

Dennis also recommends \u201cPete Rose: My Story\u201d<\/a> (921 Rose, P): \u201cPete Rose died recently at the age of 83. I thought it might be a good time to revisit this 1989 book by Rose and Roger Kahn. No one in baseball had more hits than Charlie Hustle.\u201d<\/p>

Finally, in recognition of International Games Month, Susanna suggests checking out \u201cParlor Games: Traditional Indoor Games to Amuse and Delight\u201d<\/a> (793 Par): \u201cEntertain your guests with parlor games. This volume includes \u201cThe Minister\u2019s Cat,\u201d as seen in Charles Dickens\u2019 \u201cA Christmas Carol.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>
