The Library is celebrating the beginning of our summer programs with a Color Our World Summer Kick-Off Event<\/a> on Tuesday, June 3 from 3-6 pm. Drop in anytime during these hours to visit our Creative Stations and make fun art with the help of a local artist! <\/p>

After creating your work of art, you can bring it to the first floor Gallery to display. You can choose to create Jewelry, Collage, Mandala Rock Painting, Air Dry Clay, and more! Live music will also be available. This free event is for all ages and is open to the public. Bring your family to make art and celebrate creativity at the library! You can also sign up for our Summer Reading Programs during this time. This activity is made possible in part by the Indiana Arts Commission, which receives support from the State of Indiana and the National Endowment for the Arts.<\/p>

We have Summer Reading challenges for all ages this summer, which will be available beginning Tuesday, May 27. Visit the library to get started and earn prizes for reading! <\/p>

The Youth Services Department would like to invite children and teens to take an adventure and \u201cGet Fired Up About Reading.\u201d For children, the goal this summer will be to read for seven hours by July 8, and to track reading time on a chart with a castle, a volcano, boats, and dragons. Once the first four circles have been completed by reading 70 minutes, the child may come in for their first prize! Continue to complete more circles for more prizes. The last prize may be collected when the final four circles have been completed, where you will end up at the dragon\u2019s treasure chest!<\/p>

When preschoolers complete their reading goal, their prize is a book and a book bag for their new book. When elementary students complete the goal their prize is a book and a t-shirt. All reading time must be turned in by 8:30 p.m. on July 8th to receive these prizes.<\/p>

Once this goal of seven hours is completed, all participants may then join the Charm Reading Challenge. The children will read a specific genre of book, write the title and author of the book and earn a charm to place on their charm bracelet. The Charm Bracelet Challenge will continue through August 1. <\/p>

During the summer there will also be activities for children to enjoy, including story times for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers, and outside activities for children of all ages. There will be specific activities for elementary-aged children, such as foil, perler bead and diamond art. Other activities include making paper bridges and volcanoes. Visit the library or check out our calendar for details. <\/p>

For teens, the challenge is a Bingo reading chart. After getting a Bingo, they may come in for a prize. They may continue on to complete more Bingos and are eligible to earn up to 12 prizes. There will be special activities for the teens as well. <\/p>

For adults, the \u201cColor Our World\u201d challenge can be completed online through Beanstack. Visit cdpl.beanstack.com<\/a> or download the free Beanstack app to begin. Prefer paper? Stop by the second floor and pick up a paper copy of the challenge anytime during our open hours beginning May 27. Challenge yourself to read this summer and see how far you can get! If you read at least five hours by July 8, you will earn a prize book and button. If you read ten hours, you will be entered into our grand prize raffle for a Samsung Galaxy tablet and a prize bag filled with art supplies and library swag! Secondary prize bags will also be available. If you want more of a challenge, you can complete extra reading time and bonus activities to earn more raffles. <\/p>
