Curious about snakes, lizards, and other fascinating exotic animals? Join us for our exciting and educational Scaly Safari<\/a> at the library\u00a0 on Saturday, July 19, from 10-11 am. A herp hobbyist will bring and introduce you to a variety of scaly creatures. You will have an opportunity to see, and maybe even touch, a snake and other reptiles. This event is perfect for animal lovers of all ages who want to learn more about the care, behavior, and habitats of these pets. Whether you’re thinking of adopting an exotic pet or just want to learn more, this program will be fun for the whole family. Registration is not required; just meet us in the Donnelley Room in the lower level of the library.<\/p>

Until then, why not dive into a book about snakes? \u201cThe New Encyclopedia of Snakes<\/a>\u201d (639.39 Mat) has everything you need to know about the species including classification, morphology, how and where snakes live, and much more. If you are interested in keeping a snake as a pet, \u201cSnakes<\/a>\u201d by John Coborn (j 639.396 Cob), found in our children\u2019s collection, discusses the health and behavior of snakes and also provides information on keeping them as pets.<\/p>

Do other scaly creatures pique your interest? The library offers a variety of books on reptiles, such as \u201cFirefly Encyclopedia of Reptiles and Amphibians<\/a>\u201d (597.9 Fir). This encyclopedia provides information on amphibians and reptiles, from miniature tree frogs to anacondas and everything in between. For the younger readers, \u201cReptiles<\/a>\u201d by Simon Holland (j 597.9 Hol) from our children\u2019s collection explores the world of reptiles, discussing lizards, snakes, tortoises, and more. A great general reference for information on keeping reptiles as pets is \u201cFirefly Encyclopedia of the Vivarium<\/a>\u201d (639.39 Ald). This book delves into how to set-up and maintain reptile vivariums, which are the enclosures where they live, as well as information on feeding, breeding, and health matters.<\/p>
