From current magazines to historical newspapers, Crawfordsville District Public Library has thousands of issues of periodicals available to check out digitally with your library card.
Our free Libby app is not only filled with tons of books and audiobooks, it also has thousands of magazines to choose from that are always available with no wait list, no loan limits, and no due dates. You can even “subscribe” to a magazine through Libby (for free of course!) to get notified when new issues are available. While these magazines don’t come with the glossy pages and perfume samples, you still get to see the exact same full–color formatting and layout as the physical magazine. Just swipe the screen to turn the page and enjoy!
Keep up with what is going on in the world with “Newsweek,” “The New Yorker,” and “The Guardian Weekly,” or check out all of the hot celebrity gossip with “Us Weekly” and “Star Magazine.” Find recipes galore inside “Taste of Home,” “Bon Appetit,” and “Cook’s County.” There are magazines for every interest from hunting and fishing to health and exercise, to crafting, to parenting, and more. Children and teen magazines are also available, including “National Geographic Kids,” “Highlights,” “Girls Life,” and “Sports Illustrated Kids.” These titles only scratch the surface of the thousands of magazines you have free access to through Libby.
If you already use the Libby app for books, just search for the Magazine Rack to explore available titles. If you don’t use Libby yet, just go to the app store on your phone or tablet and search Libby to download. Put in your library card information to get started. Questions? We are always happy to help at the second floor Info desk.
If you are looking for historical newspapers, we have access to that, too. Visit the “Newspaper Archive” database to explore history and genealogy with one of the largest available online newspaper archives. And our newest digital newspaper collection, “Newspapers.com World Edition” from Ancestry, provides online access to newspapers dating from the early 1700s into the early 2000s. Search by keyword, date, or location to find marriage announcements, social pages, birth announcements, obituaries, sports, and news. While Montgomery County papers are not available on this site, many Indiana newspapers can be found here.
For access to historical Montgomery county papers, check out our local history area on the second floor of the library or visit our local history database. We have physical or microfilm copies of several years of local newspapers, many of which are indexed. To explore any of our local history or newspaper databases, visit our Recursos de historia local page.
If you prefer physical magazines and newspapers, we still have those, too. Find our periodicals collection on the second floor of the library behind our nonfiction collection. Grab a magazine and a chair and enjoy reading while overlooking Pike Place.
Stop by the Circulation or Info Desk if you would like to learn how to find materials, get a library card, or get more information about our upcoming programs.
