No matter what genre you love to read, the staff at Crawfordsville District Public Library have some wonderful book recommendations for you this month. Chris recommends the bestselling fantasy book: “Dungeon Crawler Carl” by Matt Dinniman (FIC Dinniman Dungeon v.1): “Amazing book if you like great world building.” If, like many readers, you fall in love with Carl and his cat Princess Donut, there is a whole series to explore. The eighth book of the series is coming out this month, as well as a graphic novel version of the first book!
If a mix of gothic romance and dark suspense sounds wonderful to you, don’t miss the book everyone has been reading lately: “Haunting Adeline” by H. D. Carlton (FIC Carlton Cat v.1). This spicy mystery is Ashlyn’s pick for the month and is the first in the Cat and Mouse duet, followed by “Hunting Adeline.”
Brenda’s pick this month is a previous Reese’s Book Club pick and has been long-listed for the Women’s Prize for Fiction. “Wild Dark Shore” by Charlotte McConaghy (FIC McConaghy) “follows a father and his three children on an isolated island. A story of grief, fear, loss, but also one of hope and strength. The author gives a beautiful description of nature and makes you see the beauty of the island. Great read and was inspired by a real-life island: Macquarie Island.”
Mary’s pick was also an Oprah’s Book Club pick last year: “Some Bright Nowhere” by Ann Packer (FIC Packer): “Eliot and wife Claire have been married 40 years. Claire is diagnosed with cancer and Eliot becomes her caretaker. Claire’s dying request causes Eliot to question the cost of truly loving someone.” This deeply moving book is Ann Packer’s first book in over a decade.
Bryanna’s pick is another popular bestseller that was also turned into a movie. “A Man Called Ove” by Fredrik Backman (FIC Backman): “I found myself immediately loving this curmudgeon and wondering what he would say and think next.” If you love this book, Backman has several other bestselling titles as well on our shelves.
Finally, if you are feeling nostalgic and want to jump back into the 80s and 90s, Ashlyn recommends rewatching two cozy favorites “10 Things I Hate About You” (DVD FIC 10), from 1999, and Sixteen Candles (DVD FIC Six), from 1984.
You can check out these staff picks and more from our first floor display through the end of May. Several are also available digitally on our free Libby app. The library’s current open hours are Monday-Thursday 10am-8pm, Saturday 10am-5pm, and Sunday 1-5pm.
