The Human Library is hosting an event on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Crawfordsville District Public Library from 10am to 2pm.
Have you wanted to ask someone questions about their religion, race, or experiences but felt too uncomfortable? Or have you encountered prejudice or misconceptions about yourself, and you didn’t know how to talk about it with other people?
At the Human Library, actual people are on loan for conversations. They have experienced prejudice, bias, or discrimination based on aspects of their person, heritage, occupation, or life experiences. The Human Library creates a safe space for conversations where Readers and Books can openly discuss topics that are usually stigmatized or taboo. The emphasis is on acknowledging and challenging the prejudice we all carry towards one another. At the Human Library, we invite all questions, and our Books engage in sharing their personal experiences with Readers. Would you like to be a Reader and loan a Book or two for conversation on March 1?
Come by any time between 10am and 2pm to borrow a Book for a conversation about prejudices and diversity. The concept is simple; you show up at the library counter, where you receive guidance from librarians on the topics available for lending. Once you have chosen the Book you want to talk to, you sit down and have an open conversation where every question on the topic is welcome.
