Our library’s shelves are full of over 100,000 items to check out, from books to movies, to hotspots, and more. But your library card also provides you access to thousands of digital items beyond what is on our shelves.
Our most popular digital collection is Libby, which gives you access to the Indiana Digital Library. This shared collection includes a huge selection of ebooks, audiobooks, and digital magazines, all available for free with your library card. Find the latest Colleen Hoover title or browse through “Us Weekly” while you are waiting for an appointment. You can check out any of these items on a tablet, smartphone, or computer. If the book you want is currently checked out, just place a hold on it and you’ll be notified when it’s available. With Libby, you can check out as many books as you want, and Indiana library users borrowed a record total of 6.6 million digital items from the Indiana Digital Library in 2023! It’s one of 152 public library systems in the world that had over one million checkouts. (Great job reading, Indiana!) Our own library had over 33,000 Libby checkouts in 2023 and our numbers have further increased this year.
Our library also provides you access to two other popular collections: hoopla and Kanopy. hoopla’s collection contains everything from ebooks and audiobooks to comics, music, and movies. With your library card, you can get five hoopla titles every month. Kanopy allows you to stream movies, documentaries, and series for free, and each month you get 30 Kanopy download tickets to spend.
Beyond these digital collections, your library card also gives you access to several databases for research and learning. Want to find out about your family history? Check out Ancestry, Heritage Quest, and our own Local History Databases. Each is a trove of information from the past. We also provide access to Newspaper Archive, which is one of the largest online newspaper collections, and Nineteenth Century U.S. Newspapers, where you can find historical newspapers from the 1800s.
