Early August brings the end of the Summer at the Museum program for kids 4-12 at the Carnegie Museum. The turning of the page of the calendar doesn’t mean things slow down! August and September are full of interesting exhibits and programming from the Community Art Show: Sound & Silence to The Revolution in Plain Sight: Conversations of Indiana and the 250th lecture to the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the filming of the movie Hoosiers.
Saturday, August 9, 2 pm – 4 pm the Museum will host the opening reception for Sound & Silence, the fourth annual Community Art Show. Come see artwork by talented artists of all ages from Montgomery County! The Museum is excited to announce this year’s 31 artists: Abigail Olmstead, Alice Harpel, Alicia McIssac, Anna Lindsay, Anne Shaw, Betsy Strain, Brooke Harshbarger, Bruce McClamroch, Chad Edwards, Correna Vellner, David Bethard, Eduardo Guayo, Elizabeth Cook, Eva Yates, Hazel Howard, Jerry Smith, John Zimmerman, Kathleen Steele, Kathy Houghton, Laurie Vellner, Leslie Warren, Liam Bernhardt III, Lissa Fairfield, Lucille Fishero, Nina Cunningham, Odette Leaming, Regina Zurawski, Ryan White, Sara Howard, Susan Peterman, and Will Bernhardt II.
Did you know 2026 is the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence? Join the Museum’s first program celebrating the American experiment of Democracy in honor of the United States’ Semiquincentennial. On Thursday, August 28, 2025, at 7:00 PM, The Revolution in Plain Sight: Conversations of Indiana and the 250th lecture will feature Ryan L. Cole and Jill Weiss Simins, two Indiana historians, who will connect the ideals of the Revolution with our local history.
Ryan L. Cole is the author of The Last Adieu: Lafayette’s Triumphant Return, the Echoes of Revolution, and the Gratitude of the Republic, and Light-Horse Harry Lee: Rise and Fall of a Revolutionary Hero. He has written on American history for publications such as the Wall Street Journal and has worked for Governor Mitch Daniels and Senator Todd Young.
Jill Weiss Simins is a historian at the Indiana Archives and Records Administration focused on collections accessibility and the history of Indiana. She has been the recipient of the Dorothy Riker Hoosier Historian Award from the Indiana Historical Society, the Beck-Levy Fellowship from the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library, and a Smithsonian Fellowship through Re-Imagining Migration.
Saturday, September 6, 2025, 2 PM – 4 PM is the opening reception for two exhibits! Burnin’ Rubber: Racing in Montgomery County and Hoosiers Hometown Hickory celebrate racing in all of its forms, as well as the 40th anniversary of New Richmond starring as Hickory in the movie Hoosiers.
The Carnegie Museum of Montgomery County is open Wednesday – Saturday, 10 AM – 5 PM, and is wheelchair and stroller accessible.
