Stuck in a summer rut? July is Anti-Boredom month, and wow, does our new display on the second floor of the library have the boredom busters for you! From board games to new hobbies to supernatural fiction, this display has a little bit of everything for everyone.
For some family fun, check out “Monopoly Deal” (BOARD GAME Monopoly Deal), a card game twist on the classic board game everyone loves. Or maybe you’re looking for a good trivia night, then “…I Should Have Known That” (BOARD GAME …I) is for you. Like a strategic, Russian Roulette style game? Check out “Exploding Kittens” (BOARD GAME Exploding).
Perhaps breaking the summer time boredom begins with starting a new hobby. If this is the case, be sure to check out Alisa Golden’s “Making Handmade Books: 100+ bindings, structures & forms” (686.3 Gol), where she takes you step by step on how to bring different book structures to life. Cooking may be more up your alley, and if so, be sure to take a look at Jessica Secrest’s “Of Course It’s Good: Aggressively Delicious Meals Anyone Can Make and Everyone Will Love” (641.555 Secrest), where she takes low-effort ingredients and techniques and delivers flavorful recipes that the whole family will enjoy. We have even added Phil Bloom’s “Hiking Indiana: a guide to the state’s greatest hiking adventures” (796.51 Blo), if exploring the great outdoors is on your to-do list this summer.
For readers who want to get lost in a good book to beat the summer heat, check out Stephenie Meyer’s “The Chemist”(FIC Mey), which follows an ex-agent on the run from her former top-secret government employer. If you want to add a little supernatural spice, grab Harley Laroux’s “Her Soul to Take” (FIC Laroux Souls v. 1), where a demon wants not just her body but her soul, too.
A movie might be your boredom breaker of choice. Check out “Inception” (DVD FIC Inc), where dreams and reality collide. Binge-watch the complete season 2 of American Horror Story: Asylum (DVD TV FIC Ame s.2) as you follow the staff and patients at the Briarcliff home for the criminally insane. Need a little more adventure than thriller? Would you sign up to die for a living? Mickey Barnes makes that exact commitment in the movie “Mickey 17”(DVD FIC Mickey).
