City and County Maps

Atlas of Montgomery County: 1878 Images of the complete atlas, Illustrated Historical Atlas of the State of Indiana from 1876. Leads to maps of not just of Indiana counties and towns, but also to national maps and statistics from the 1870 United States Census.

Clerk Records (1868-1874): Records of city proceedings, minutes, reports, and bylaws.

Coal Creek Township Warrants, 1895-1896; includes Bearer Bonds from 1909-1919 Montgomery County Township Surveyor’s Record Books: The Montgomery County Surveyor’s Office donated county survey records for digitization. These books give section, township, NR, and direction. The books help locate corners, size, marks, witness size, direction, distance, and marks. Covers 1832-1977.

Prisoners Admitted to Jail in Montgomery County, Indiana — Sheriff Records

Register of Negroes of Montgomery County, 1851-1853: This document lists names and descriptions of free Black Americans living in Montgomery County. Includes an index at the beginning. Register of Paupers in Montgomery County Poor Farm, 1869-1978: This book contains names, age, admitted date, discharge date, died, where born, parentage, physical description, township, disability, and remarks. Sometimes indicates where buried and next of kin.

Some contents: debit and credit for individuals, division maps, bill of expenses, rents for 1879, The Mikle farm, subscription list for Gravel Road, rent statistics, expenses on Huber farm, and repairs and expenses of mill.

Telephone Directories

Mace Telephone Directory 1911: This booklet for Mace, Walnut Township, Montgomery County. Contains advertisements and an alphabetical index of names. There are no street addresses–just residence, barn, store, or office telephone numbers. 

Montgomery County Plat Maps

The CDPL Adult Services Department has digitized and indexed the Montgomery County, Indiana Assessor’s Plat Map Books. Montgomery County has 10 townships, and each township averages 12 to 13 volumes. The originals are stored in our archives, and bound copies are available for our patrons to consult on site.
